SOLD OUT!! FULL HOUSE SIGN GOES OUT AT BUXTON
16th December 2008

The company and cast at this year's pantomime at Buxton Opera House kicked off the run in spectacular style. After weeks of rehearsals they nervously took to the stage on Friday and put on what looks like becoming the surprise smash of pantoland this year. Denise Nolan has a heavy workload as she has to say all her lines in rhyming couplets. References to the credit crunch were inevitable as she opened the show. Denise is a pantomime legend with 28 of them under her belt. Vocally Denise was, it has to be said, impressive. Mark Kempner was in fine form a the bumbling Baron Hardup his on stage chemistry with Denise Nolan was noticeable, particularly during the ballroom scene where he takes a shine to her. Phil Gallagher was instantly likeable as buttons. His cheeky chappie style had the children on his side within minutes. His expertise in children's TV is evident and he seems to genuinely love children. His off stage persona too is warm and friendly. The Ugly Sisters played by Andy Spiegal and Michael Duncan were devilishly wicked and camp in equal measure. Their outfits grew progressively better and without stealing any of the show's thunder culminated in a marvellously over the top ice cream ensemble. Pantomime newcomer Ciara Janson although nervous at times was suitably cast as Cinderella, showing off her obvious sweet nature, Duncan Wigman clearly had hearts a flutter as did Kevin Kemp who played the Prince and Dandini respectively. Finally Samantha Hilton provided competent vocal delivery in her performance as Gretel. The Musical Director of the Show, Karl Pendlebury has done a fantastic job with the musical score. Considering he is only working with a drummer and a bass player he has managed to fill out the sound to such an extent that audiences could be forgiven for thinking that there is a much bigger orchestra in the pit. The lighting too deserves a mention, as does the very helpful volunteers and staff of the theatre itself. The Opera House at Buxton is a wonderful theatre and compliments the sets that would make bigger company's envious. There is no shortage of costumes and sets too. The opening night hosted many local special needs children who had come from all across the region. Their enthusiasm never waned throughout the evening. The ghost scene being particularly loud. After the show the cast and company were treated to a lavish spread with drinks in a local bar. The show runs until January the third tickets can be bought online by following the link here. Finally we would like to thank Mark Kempner (Baron Hardup) for supplying us with the photographs

HUGE CROWDS BRAVE THE COLD TO SEE DENISE TURN ON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS.
But she almost never made it!
November 22nd 2007

A journey that should have taken an hour and a half was doubled as Denise headed to Buxton to headline the town's festive lights switch on. Denise was understandingly nervous and fraught as traffic crawled. With only moments to spare she arrived at the town's superb Opera House Theatre. Whilst the mayoral parade drew ever close. As our exclusive pictures reveal, Denise managed to get into costume and practically ran to the Pavilion Park's bandstand. After making a short speech delivered in Pantomime style. Denise and her party which included her Aunty, her Sister Anne, Amy (Anne's daughter) and this site's webmaster, headed for informal drinks and chat with the town's mayor, Lady Mayoress and several local dignitaries. Her journey to the warmth was hampered somewhat with well wishers and fans wanting to pass on their thoughts and good wishes. One resident was very vocal in claiming that "You and your Sisters were the best girls group ever - way better than the Spice Girls" With endorsements like that the show is certain to be a smash hit. The Council officials told Denise that already the show was selling exceptionally well with advance orders beating records. The lady Mayoress showed some of the party around the newly refurbished venue that includes restaurants, bars, shops and a much improved conservatory. The group are keen to welcome people from the town to their venue as well as seeing visitors from further afield. Denise said afterwards that she was looking forward to spending time in Buxton and reacquainting herself with some of the town's many beautiful sights. There's lots of shopping opportunities too to grab a last minute Christmas gift. Rehearsals begin for the show the first week in December with the opening night being December 12th. Book online by following the link. Or Call 0845 1272190

CONCERT DATE IN JANUARY
22nd Nov 2008

We are always trying to keep you abreast with Denise Nolan news. We can confirm that she has provisionally accepted an offer to star in a concert to be staged on January 17th at Lowther Pavilion in January 2009. We were approached with a view to have Denise receive star billing. Some of the evening's takings are to head to a very small charity that Denise is happy to support. The show promises to feature some of the best talent from around the North West of England and beyond. The promoter is working hard to get the show off the ground and we hope to give you more news and get you to support the event.

CHARITY CAROLS

Meanwhile we are working over the next few days with a number of charities to get the appropriate licences to have a Nolan family reunion where as many as possible can get together to sing to help raise money for a charity close to their hearts. We will get the news to you as soon as we can. It looks like if the local authority can oblige us, then we are hoping for December 21st event. As always, we will get it to you as soon as we can.

DENISE HEADS TO BUXTON FOR CHRISTMAS LIGHT SWITCH ON

Nov 16th 2008The Vision Buxton "Switch On" committee has been hard at work since last December organising this year's Christmas Lights Switch On Event. Last year the wind roared around the Market Place and the rain lashed down on everyone - so this year a "wet weather" venue was recommended and it didn't take much thought to realise that the Pavilion Gardens was the perfect place for a community event such as this. Even if the rain and wind make an appearance again this year - the audience can take shelter inside and only the performers will be shivering on the bandstand. Denise will be performing the switch on herself, dressed for the occasion in her Pantomime costume. So join them at the Pavilion Gardens on Friday 21st November between 5pm and 7.30pm for a traditional Switch On of Buxton's Christmas Lights. All the usual ingredients will be there - carol singing and band music, fairground rides and face painting, the Mayoral procession with Santa, children's lanterns and of course, Denise. All the facilities of the Pavilion Gardens will be open, so why not come early for a special festive "tea" before the activities start. On the night Denise will be switching on Buxton's Wishing Tree, and the local council there hope you will all help them to make money for Blythe House Hospice by recording a wish in the special book in the Pavilion Gardens' entrance, and making a donation. Everyone is wishing for a dry evening! See you there.

POPPYTHON 2008 DENISE TO TOP THE BILL
15th August 2008

The Nolan family has always had strong links with the Royal British Legion. In fact the very first date that the Singing Nolans undertook in their adopted hometown of Blackpool was in the the British Legion Club. This year, as last, one of the famous Sisters has agreed to appear as part of their fund raising event to be held at the venue in October. The date will be the 18th October and Denise will be singing along with her own keyboard player and Tom Anderson will be accompanying her on drums. Denise is scheduled to appear at 2pm. Admission is usually payable on the door and is kept at a very reasonable £3 (STC) The proceeds will be going to the British Legion Poppy Appeal. Their will be several acts appearing throughout the day with entertainment taking place from 10am until midnight. It will be a very busy day that day for Denise and Tom who will be leaving the Legion to go and get ready for Alex Wilson's 21st Birthday party in a hotel in Blackpool that night. 200 invitations have been issued for the party and Denise is looking forward to attending both events. "I know it's going to be a busy day because Alex's Mum, my sister Anne will no doubt be giving me lots of things to do throughout the day for the party. I couldn't let the Legion down though because they have always been so good to us as a family and it is such a worthy cause. I am also so excited about my Niece's party. We don't get so many chances to get together completely but I know this will be a great night." Denise is encouraging people to attend the event and where possible to give generously to the British Legion Poppy Appeal. Online donations can be made here

WITH A WAVE OF A WAND SHE GOES FROM WICKED QUEEN TO A FAIRY
02 July 2008

"It will be nice for me to play a girlie part once again - I have been the wicked Queen for a few years now and I have loved doing it. I must say though that as an artiste you are used to getting applause when you walk on stage and not boos! So it will be nice to be in a part where the kids like me straight away." Fine words indeed Denise, but we know from the reviews of your previous portrayals of the wicked Queen that the audience do love your ever so evil part of Queen Malevola or Queen Griselda. However, The Fairy Godmother role, one which Denise last played in the 1990's, will also be the show where she gets the chance to wear nice costumes too. "The company are getting me new costumes for when the show starts, and it's great to wear these flowing gowns. These are great roles to play now that I am am a little too old to play Snow White." The saddest thing about not playing Snow White? "Ah that's easy" says Denise "I don't get a chance to kiss the handsome prince anymore!" Denise is also looking forward to working with 'Cinderella' Ciara Janson who currently plays Nicole Owen in the hit Channel Four soap 'Hollyoaks' and CBeebies favourite Phil Gallagher, who will don the ever popular "Buttons" jacket to play the coat's namesake. The show, produced by Channel Theatre productions, commences on December 12th and runs until January 3rd click here to book online. These pictures just came to us direct from Claudia Leaf who is part of the team organising the pantomime at Buxton this year. We have copy protected the pictures at this point but we are able to send them to you should you want them for your personal collection on your PC. Soon the pantomime flyer will be made available from which the composite picture (left) was made. The pictures are high resolution and so would make excellent wallpaper or background for your PC. Just e-mail the website on adamnolan100@hotmail.com and I will gladly send them to you. Should you require them for your personal website then that is also fine as long as the photograph credits Philip Dart for his work.

OH YES IT IS! DENISE GETS TOP BILLING IN BUXTON PANTOMIME
30th May 2008

Less than two months after signing to her new artiste management company Denise has been offered and has accepted the leading role in the Buxton opera House pantomime for 2008/09. In a change of role we will see Denise playing the fairy Godmother in the Channel Production's version of Cinderella. Details are only just emerging but CBeebies favourite Phil Gallagher is starring alongside Denise in the show. Phil who previously was a Disney Channel star is no stranger having starred in Jack And The Beanstalk last year. Denise is thrilled to be playing the fairy Godmother saying earlier today, "It's always great fun to play the wicked Queen of course but it does have a downside, the whole audience is booing you and that's not always welcome when you are a performer! The costumes are always a bit grim as well, but as the fairy Godmother you get to wear pretty things and have the whole audience like you straight away. My Sister Maureen usually plays the Fairy Godmother, which is an obvious choice with her being so pretty. Now I can say that I am doing the same as her! This year sees Denise working for a different company, Channel Productions. This is Denise's first outing with the company and she is looking forward to working with them after six memorable years with Paul Holman Associates. Pantomime has changed considerably over the last few years and recent years have seen Denise working in mainly matinee shows which are very gruelling to a performer. This year's show sees afternoon and evening performances. This was much more agreeable to Denise, coupled with the much nearer to home venue. The venue, Buxton Opera house, is a favourite of Denise's and was designed by Frank Matchem who was responsible for some of the country's finest theatres including Blackpool Grand Theatre and The Gaiety Theatre in Dublin. Denise was last at the theatre in 2006 when she appeared there with her Judy Garland show to rave reviews. Tickets have been released for sale and are available to purchase online by clicking the theatre's banner link below. The show runs from December 12th '08 until January 3rd 2009

DENISE ASKED TO BECOME CHARITY PATRON
05th April 2008

One of Britain's largest and most respected charities has approached Denise Nolan and formally invited her to become a patron of her local branch. The Blackpool and Wyre branch approached the charity's head office in London who approached Denise, who in turn, agreed to attend where possible events to raise the profile of the charity. She will also act as a fund raiser too where possible. The charity have in invited Denise to attend a formal dinner at Blackpool's DeVere hotel on April 18th. We are to speak to the charity on Monday to find out more details which we can hopefully pass on to you soon. In view of Denise's Spanish holiday her attendance may not be possible. However the organisation will be staging several events throughout the year. It is hoped that Denise will be able to sing at one or more of them. Meanwhile Anne Nolan has also been asked and was delighted to agree also. Details will appear on her site soon. Anne and Denise Nolan have been organising their own charity event for the Alzheimer's Society. The original plan devised by Anne Nolan was to see a show in April but that has had to be postponed due to artiste commitments. At this time we ask you to take a look at Denise's charity page.

DENISE NOLAN'S "PERSONAL CHOICE"
9th April 2008

RSA FM 99.1, thestation broadcasting in English to local and ex pat communities on the Costa Del Sol is the station that will carry Denise's show this coming Monday between the hours of 7pm and 9pm. The show will NOT be available as a live stream, although much of the station's contact and company profile can be accessed through it's website http://www.rsafm.org. Denise is rightly excited at the chance to talk to upwards of a hundred thousand people in the catchment area, Naturally we are disappointed that the broadcast wont be made available online but it seems that the station is governed by copyright restrictions and that the local area does not have sufficient broadband coverage to warrant the cost involved. Should the show come to us in a digital format, we may be able to forward it to you for private listening. Full details, as always, if and when we have them.

KATRINEHOLM - A RESULT!!
17th March 2008

Previously we reported that our site had a very prolific visitor, as you know we put out a "Calling Katrineholm" message and readers we are delighted to introduce you to Marie Rigefalk. Marie (pictured, right) is 36 and has been a Nolans fan since 1981 when the sister act appeared on a local TV show Lena Maria Gårdenäs Show. Marie has a Sister who lives in Stockholm, we are not sure if her taste in music is the same as Marie's, but we hope so! Marie loves walking, cooking, baking and Royalty. Of course music is highest on Marie's list of hobbies and her loyalty as a fan deserves some recognition. Marie has been ill for quite some time but we are happy to report she is on the mend and hopes to be back working soon. In the meantime she enjoys the internet which she has been active on for two years. She tells us that the Nolans are still remembered by the Swedes and that her favourite parts of our site are the gallery, and the blog. She has even managed to get her Mum to enjoy the Nolans. She hopes one day to see the Nolans sing live - don't we all Marie!

ANNE NOLAN LINKS DIRECT TO DENISE NOLAN'S OFFICIAL WEBSITE
08th March 2008

Anne Nolan today launches a new website with direct links to us. Marc Nixon who currently resides in Spain has secured the backing of the new official Anne Nolan website. This is scheduled to be launched today. Anne was disappointed that none of her news items were managing to appear on her old site, and sought a solution via Marc in Spain. Marc already takes care of thenolansisters.com and is in an excellent position to provide fans with up to the minute news regarding Anne. He also is part of a regular live web link that sees Anne, Denise, Tom and Adam on webcam. He will be able to give breaking news as it happens to Anne's fans. His first task is to cover the promotion of Anne's forthcoming book 'Anne's song' We would like to extend our congratulations to Marc for receiving the job and we would like to wish him and the site every success. Incidentally the new website has a new address for obvious reasons - we have pleasure giving it to you now www.annenolan.info The new home for Anne Nolan's official website. Ensure you bookmark the page.

NEW MANAGEMENT DEAL ALMOST FINALISED.
27th Feb 2008

After several weeks of behind the scenes negotiating between Denise Nolan, Tom Anderson and a soon to be disclosed management company, we are able to bring you up to date. Following her record breaking Pantomime at Broxbourne Denise was introduced to a prominent Covent Garden Management Company with a view to a professional collaboration. Both parties are keen to work together, but as with all professional matters we cannot disclose all details until the terms are agreed. We will, of course, give full details when the two party's have reached full agreement on creative, management and contractual terms. The company has a wealth of experience in Theatrical, TV, Radio and Musical Theatre, and Denise is very excited at the prospect of being involved with such a high calibre company.

RON MARTIN MANAGEMENT

Meanwhile it has been brought to our attention that several old website pages are lurking somewhere in cyberspace that seem to indicate that Denise Nolan is still represented by Ron Martin Management. We would like to point out that Denise Nolan and Ron Martin Management parted company a long time ago. Whilst the break was completely amicable we felt it was improper for any potential producer or booker to misunderstand the position whilst considering booking Denise. At this time Denise would like to send her warmest wishes to Ron Martin and Ric Green. As negotiations are continuing regarding Denise's management we would advise potential bookers to use the contact details on this site. You are welcome to discuss professional requirements with Tom Anderson in this interim period.

DENISE NOLAN TO FEATURE IN ALZHEIMER'S CHARITY SHOW.
4th February 2008

Anne Nolan has confirmed to us that she is pressing ahead with a charity concert she is arranging at Blackpool's Paradise Room in April. The gig will be headlined by local favourite Joe Longthorne. The black tie event hopes to raise cash for Alzheimer's charities. Several entertainers have been approached by Anne and have agreed to take part in the show. Hopes of a Nolans reunion have been hampered by almost all of the Sisters' work commitments. Bernie and Maureen will be in the South of England. Linda, it is presumed, will have rejoined the tour of Blood Brothers and will be out of town. Denise Nolan has provisionally agreed to take part. This website agreed to assist Anne with the online selling of tickets, and offer promotion for the concert. As further details are released we will share them with you.

BAR RED GOV'NOR : "IT'S THE BEST NIGHT WE HAVE EVER HAD HERE SINCE YOU LOT CAME LAST TIME."
28th January 2008

'Love in the air' might have been the theme of the event, but music was the night's real winner. Anne Nolan's charity event at Bar Red was packed to capacity with more than 400 revellers, many of whom had travelled from as far away as Scotland. Nolans fans also made the journey from places as diverse as London and Manchester. Chris Hare had travelled throughout the day to be there whilst Matthew Fernando came from Manchester with his partner and friends. Matthew said at the event "It's just fantastic that we get to be this close and to mix with the girls on a social level, it's like being out with your friends." Everyone's favourite Auntie Theresa was there to offer much needed sobriety when it came to the raffle prize draw. Formal wear was the norm and Anne's daughters Amy and Alex were there dressed as one would expect in high fashion. Anne was not to be outdone though, she wore a beautiful full length gown and sported a brand new hairstyle which was admired by everyone. Denise even quipped onstage at one point "Doesn't Anne look gorgeous, look at her hair, she's like Michelle from Corrie." Denise opened the night's music entertainment and sang Garland numbers with an immediate effect on the dance floor. Anne gave an almost comedic performance talking to the crowd throughout her set and generally having a great time. The second set by Denise saw her sing a 15 minute medley of songs including a fabulous "Sound of music" section that had the audience joining in in loud voice. Anne sang the inevitable 'I'm in the mood for dancing' before Denise brought the evening to a close with 'New York New, York' Tom Anderson had played drums throughout the evening and even sang with Denise. After the live entertainment Tom swapped hats to become the gig's resident DJ, playing dance numbers until it was time to leave. Roughly 3am! There was even drama on the dance floor as not one but TWO people ended up quite literally on the dance floor. One woman injuring herself with broken glass in her feet. The other flat on her back, as she skidded on a wet surface. Denise and Anne were on hand to assist with the first aid and to give the crowd a telling off for taking drinks onto the dance floor. No one was seriously hurt so merriment was able to reconvene almost immediately. It has already been confirmed that there will be another gig later in the year. Meanwhile Anne confirmed to us that she is pressing ahead with her charity gig at Blackpool's Paradise Room in April. The gig which will feature Denise will be headlined by local favourite Joe Longthorne. The event will raise cash for Alzheimer's charities. Several entertainers have been approached by Anne and have agreed to take part in the show.

WE'RE REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.
24th January 2008

Speaking last night from London. Tom Anderson, Denise's manager and partner were in a hectic rush. Tom told us. "We are in a mad rush really, we have things to tie up at this end and then it's up to Blackpool on Friday night. First thing Saturday I have to take the drums to the venue and set them up - It's a lot more time consuming than you think. Especially when you are on your own!!" Aww well never mind Tom! Meanwhile over in a Lancashire village quite some miles from Blackpool Anne and Denise will be limbering up vocally and going through the set list with the musical director and keyboard player. Anne Nolan was confident that all she needed was a key check and to tell the MD what she was singing - that and a few vodkas on the night she said. Denise however wanted a full rehearsal for the near sell out show on Saturday night. Said Denise "I am the same whether it's a massive gig in a theatre or smaller show like this. I always have to have a full run through or I don't feel right. I am not being precious or anything, but the show has to be right." We couldn't agree with you more Denise. The Sisters are hopeful that one or two younger family members might make it to the venue and perhaps give the crowd a few numbers. Who knows with a Nolan family show - Anyone might turn up. Tickets are available through this website by calling the office on 01253317658 or texting 07880838801. Anne's official website is not carrying details of the show sadly.

PANTOMIME PICTURES RELEASED TO DELIGHT OF DENISE
24th January 2008

The pantomime season is finally over, and one particular star can sit back safe in the knowledge that her place as the country's finest wicked queen is secure. Box office records were smashed in Broxbourne both in terms of cash and attendances. The show was staged by Paul Holman Associates who were delighted with Denise's work and with the company as a whole. Lee Waddingham supplied us with these fabulous pictures and I am sure you agree with us that Denise is looking relaxed and confident with everything. Full sized views of the pictures can be found on the gallery page by clicking here. We have protected the pictures from downloading, for copyright purposes. The Nolans official website pointed out to us that there were some issues regarding the dimensions of the photos, so what we have done is reapplied them making sure that the aspect ratio is the same as the photographs original dimensions. sorry if this spoiled your viewing. Those on the gallery page were

BLACKPOOL TO SWING AGAIN IN LIFE CONCERT

We do hope you can support this event. A special mention has to go to Tom Anderson who will be travelling up from his work base in London for the event. He will be playing drums and will be acting MD for the band. Last time he was also the DJ, which he had no idea was expected! However in true showbiz style, it was all right on the night!

ALL BOX OFFICE RECORDS BROKEN AT BROXBOURNE.
3rd January 2008

Confirmation has reached us today of the astounding success that Denise's Panto at Broxbourne has been. Box Office records have been smashed according to Katrina Emerson the Senior Marketing Officer at the town's Civic Theatre. She told us today that the records for not only ticket sales but for the revenue the show has generated. It goes without saying that Denise is thrilled with the news. Tom Anderson hinted at the news last night but we had to await confirmation. He said last night ; "Denise really has been fantastic this year, in fact I would go as far as to say that she has been singing better than I have heard her sing in years. I put a lot of the Pantomime's success this year down to her. She is such a trooper, that's the thing with Denise, the show is first - the show has to be right. The company know that too and that is why they have so much faith in her." The show finishes it's run this Saturday with just 5 more shows to complete Denise is looking forward to a rest. She will be back home at the weekend before attending the funeral of her Mother next Thursday.

NEWS BREAKS OF MRS. NOLAN'S DEATH - MORE DETAILS EMERGE.
3rd JAN 2008

Major national newspapers have today carried the story of Mrs. Nolan's death last Sunday. The Sun and Daily Mirror and others announced the news with varying levels of accuracy. One National newspaper today has contacted us with a view to giving an extended interview about the tragic loss. Denise will certainly be giving the proposal some serious thought. Given Denise's own personal level of involvement it is fitting that she should be asked. Only a few weeks ago Denise gave a concert to the residents of the care home where Mrs. Nolan stayed until her death. Denise visited the home every week at least once and became friends with staff and many residents. Said Denise today, "When we were faced with putting Mum in a home we had a terrible time. no one wants to do that to a loved one, particularly not your Mum. The illness had really taken hold of Mum and she had developed effects of the disease such as swearing and undressing in front of strangers. She was never like that before, no one swore in front of Mum because she didn't approve. She attended mass every day and took pilgrims to Lourdes every year. She was such a vibrant woman with hundreds of friends. As I say, we had made the decision to place her in specialist care and gave her the option of coming with us. Anne and myself took her round loads of homes and she wasn't enamoured with any of them, until she went into the Chaseley on Blackpool promenade. As she walked in the door she said 'Oh I think I will stay here.' So that was that. She made her own decision. It was near enough to town to carry on taking her mass and other places for a day out. the staff there have been marvellous and have really looked after our Mum. As time went by the illness took hold and eventually she didn't recognise me. A few weeks ago some of my Sisters and me sat by her bed and we all ended up singing for her. For a few seconds she opened her eyes and seemed to know what was happening, but that was it. Although her death wasn't at all a shock it still comes as a terrible loss. What makes it even harder is the fact that I am in Herefordshire, Maureen is in Durham and Bernie is in Manchester in panto. The others are closer so they can see to things. I will be rejoining them after I finish Panto this Saturday."

The funeral of Mrs. Nolan, known affectionately by family and friends as 'Tufty' will take place at a Blackpool church close to her own heart. Next Thursday. Messages of condolence can be sent to the family via our contact page. Denise wanted to draw you attention to the Alzheimer's society and should you be able to, asks that you visit their website. Donations can be made online to the charity. By clicking here. You can visit Denise's charity page on this website here to see what causes are important to her.

SADNESS FOR DENISE & FAMILY AS MOTHER PASSES AWAY

Dec 30th 2007 at 11pm

It is with great sorrow that we at Denise Nolan's official website announce Maureen Senior's passing tonight. The news at the moment is still not clear. We wanted to ensure that regular visitors to this site knew of the development. Denise has informed us that she will give further details in the next day or two. Denise is currently in Hertfordshire starring in her pantomime. Anne, her eldest Sister alongside her Daughters Amy and Alex are with her to celebrate the New Year. Maureen Senior's Sister, Theresa "Auntie" McBride is also with Denise and Tom. Details of funeral arrangements, naturally will have to be made, and at this time it is not clear whether Denise will miss a performance or if the funeral will be delayed. Maureen Nolan Sr had suffered with Alzheimer's disease for many years and had spent the last few years in a nursing home. The disease takes hold and progressively erodes the brain's function. Although not a total surprise, the death is a no less distressing. Keep checking the site for more news and Den's blog which will always keep you informed.

THE STAGE : "DENISE, OUTSTANDINGLY GOOD"

Denise Nolan might not be one to stand on the rooftops to declare how good she is, but we at denisenolan.co.uk can over indulge and do exactly that. The Stage newspaper, the show business bible, has printed their review of this year's panto in Broxbourne ; Snow White, starring our very own Denise Nolan. The newspaper says that one expects Denise Nolan to know what to do with a song - and she does. It went on to say she was outstandingly good. The full review is below:

THE STAGE

It’s a good job that kids seem not to take the story of Snow White too seriously. Some terrible things go on - a hated stepchild, poison apples, kissing on red lips to restore somebody from the dead. By comparison an old man with a white beard, dressed in red, coming down the chimney seems quite innocuous. However, the kids and I loved Snow White at Broxbourne. There’s lots of fun and laughter in spite of those awful undercurrents. Again, it’s a terrific duo in the pit who contribute so much - musical director Sean Jeffrey and Tom Anderson on percussion back the vocals sensitively or exuberantly as appropriate and provide multifarious noises to speed the plot. One expects Denise Nolan to know what to do with a song (she does) and she is outstandingly good as Queen Grizelda after a slightly hesitant start. Peter John is my idea of a Dame - Dolly Dumpling is a whacky, knowing, witty creation in the best possible taste. Flamboyant costumes, a complete command of the audience and a wonderful mobile face make for a hugely enjoyable theatrical performance. Jez Edwards is not far behind as Muddles, a bouncy, energetic warm mate for the kids. His dealing with the kids on stage was masterly. Just space to mention the talented dancers from the Valle Academy, Chris Rankin as a nicely gnarled Percy, Hannah Spicer as a lovely Ms White, Amy Rawlings as a super fairy and Ashley Emerson as the Prince.

WHAT A CRACKER OF A NIGHT IN BROXBOURNE
6th November 2007

Sunday the 4th November saw the skies light up above Broxbourne, set ablaze by two of the stars from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the Christmas show to be staged at the Broxbourne Civic Hall. Denise Nolan of Nolan Sisters and Blood Brothers fame and CBBC’s Jez Edwards, who is also starring in the show were invited to start the annual bonfire and firework display. Jez and Denise entertained the crowds at the event, which attracted over 10,000 people, prior to leading the countdown which set alight a thirty-minute display of the most spectacular fireworks. The local Mayor was also in attendance. The crowds cheered as the two stars made their entrance onto the main stage at the event which is the largest in the local area. Lee Waddingham, who accompanied the stars on behalf of the show’s producers Paul Holman Associates, said “I haven’t seen anything like it. The display is the best I have ever seen. It’s also great to see the panto stars so well received by the thousands of people here. It really is an excellent opportunity to promote the show. A big thank you to Melanie Griffin from the Broxbourne Civic Hall for organizing a fantastic event”.

BLACKPOOL GIG - COMPARE DESCRIBES DENISE AS "LA CREME DE LA CREME" & UNIQUE NOLAN REUNION.
22nd October 2007

Saturday afternoons in working men's clubs are normally the preserve of the hardened drinking brigade. But Blackpool's British Legion club had a different reason to be packed to the rafters last weekend. The club's annual "Poppython" started at midday and promised entertainment for twelve hours straight. Denise was scheduled to appear between 3 and 4pm. A few delays meant that she could enjoy the company of some of the club's veterans before and unexpected treat - The family's eldest Brother ,Tommy, turned up to give a show stopping routine of fast paced gags and live singing including a fabulous version of the Neil Diamond classic 'Hello Again'. Denise came on stage to rapturous applause and started her set with 'When you're smiling' before going straight into 'Almost like being in love.' A brief chat with the crowd followed, some of whom had travelled from as far away as Northern Ireland to see her. Denise then sang what is considered by many people her best recorded song - 'The Happy Days' her finale of the 'New York New York medley' brought the crowd of several hundred to it's feet in approval. Ian Coleman who had arranged the whole day and was acting as compare said of Denise on the outro he gave her that "Denise is quality Denise is beautiful in mind, spirit, body and face. Her gift is unsurpassed she really is la creme de la creme.," What followed was totally unexpected. Ian Coleman brought back on stage a surprised Tommy Nolan. An equally shocked Denise Nolan was still on stage. Mr. Coleman cajoled the audience into urging the Brother and Sister to sing a duet. A brief working out who was to sing lead and melody and the duo were off. The choice of song - 'Danny Boy' was hardly surprising. It has been the family's signature song forever. It was also the Nolans' Mother's favourite song of all time. Their Mother, who is in a nursing home suffering with Alzheimer's disease, was in the forefront of Denise and Tommy's minds as they sang. Denise commented "It was so difficult to sing the song, not only is it particularly relevant with it being the poppython and the song is about soldiers maybe not coming home from war, it was also my Mother's favourite song. My Auntie was sat in the audience and it's a favourite of hers too. I saw her have a little weep. When I saw her crying, I wanted to run and hug her, but I know they were not tears of sadness they were tears of remembrance which was fitting and poignant." The applause that followed was deafening and a standing ovation followed. Ian Coleman had to quickly reshuffle the running order afterwards because no one wanted to follow such a performance. A children's dance troupe was considered appropriate and Denise watched from the sidelines before leaving to watch the Rugby World Cup Final. The day's events raised several thousand pounds for ex service men and women who have served with the British Armed Forces at home and Abroad

LAST MINUTE GIG - DENISE IN BLACKPOOL
19th October 2007

A meeting last night with Denise brought a last minute confirmation of Denise's participation in this year's British legion Poppython in Blackpool. The British Legion raises millions of pounds every year for British service men and women of the past an present. The Poppy is their trademark and throughout the year the British Legion uses it's resources to assist in as many ways as it can to those who have lost their lives in conflicts throughout the World whilst serving their country. Denise and the Nolan family have long since been associated with the Legion and she is delighted to offering her support. Tom Anderson will be on hand to assist with drumming. Denise will of course be singing live and from what I hear plans are afoot for Denise to sing "The Happy Days" "I Should Care" and "New York New York" amongst others. Denise is scheduled to be onstage at sometime between 3 and 4 pm. It would be great if we could see you there. We appreciate it's last minute, but as they say - Better late than never! If you can - we ask that you purchase your poppy from one of the thousands of outlets across the country who sell them. You can obtain them too from the sellers on the street. Alternatively you can donate online - At the British Legion Website

GUINNESS - YOU HAVE LET US DOWN!
11th October 2007

After a bitter dispute with the Guinness World Records earlier this year a disappointed Denise Nolan contacted us today after reading the first issue of the 2008 Guinness World Records Book. Denise was horrified to read that the book had failed to include her appearance in London's West End. The book credits the four Sisters that have taken on the role of Mrs. Johnstone. it goes on to say that Bernie first starred in the production before Linda went on tour and the it claims that Denise was offered the tour, when in fact she went into the West End and stayed there for over eight months before joining the UK National Tour of the show. It also includes the appearance Sister Maureen made in the West End. Whilst one might not see it as important we and Denise share the viewpoint that it IS very important. This work features on Denise's CV and not including it in the book makes Den look as if she is not telling the truth. Originally back in February and March Guinness issued certificates to the Sisters that contained wrong information and Tom Anderson began a lengthy series of discussions to set the record straight. Information had been gathered from various Websites carrying information about the Nolans that turned out to be wholly inaccurate. Fan club members had also seemingly supplied the wrong information to Guinness World records themselves. This was how the first situation arose and had to be resolved. A second set of certificates were issued and we have the original copy of both sets of certificates so we know we are right. Tom Anderson has contacted Guinness World Records today and we are awaiting a response. We realise that this will be the first print run but we cannot contain our disappointment. Come on Guinness - you put it right in March and April - do the right thing and sort it out for the book itself.
